Wake Up I 12 of 100 I 12" x 9"

$200.00

The Wake Up series was conceived through a meditative experience of closed-eye observation during stillness. While lying on her yoga mat, Meikle entered a deeply reflective state through slow, steady breathing, during which she began to perceive vivid colors and spontaneous, fragmented lines. These visual impressions appeared instinctively—bright, immersive, and unfiltered—while she resisted the urge to analyze or assign meaning, allowing the experience to unfold without judgment.

As she gradually returned to awareness and opened her eyes, a bird passed overhead. In that moment, she sensed a connection between the internal imagery she had witnessed and the surrounding soundscape of birdsong, interpreting the visual rhythm as an interaction between mind and environment. This realization prompted her to urgently document the experience in her sketchbook, attempting to preserve the fleeting impressions as accurately as possible.

The Wake Up series continues to evolve from these encounters between meditation, nature, and perception. Meikle’s practice incorporates layered acrylic, spray paint with stencils, and ink, forming dynamic compositions that translate sensory experience into visual language. Through her work, she seeks moments of calm within the turbulence of everyday life, creating art that aspires to uplift, inspire joy, and offer viewers a sense of lightness and reflection. She envisions the Wake Up series displayed across the skyline of Mecklenburg County as a shared visual experience—one that brings moments of pause, optimism, and quiet connection to the urban landscape.
